EA Leaked Documents have Brought the FIFA Loot Boxes in the Limelight Again.
Electronic Arts emphasize a lot on loot-boxes and is quite a lucrative business for them. However, loot boxes and controversy goes hand in hand and is under scrutiny and criticism every now and then.
A gaming insider show recently provided some leaked documents to CBC about Electronic Arts. In the leaked internal documents, EA eyes to “funnel” FIFA players into the game’s loot box mode which is FIFA Ultimate Team online mode. This requires players to spend more money on the loot boxes to get their hands on a good player.

The document further states, “Players will be actively messaged + incentivized to convert throughout the summer, FUT is the cornerstone and we are doing everything we can to drive players there.”

Loot boxes are rampant in the gaming industry and there’s nothing new in it for FIFA players. Many in the games industry criticize the abuse of loot boxes from the developers to milk money out of players. Others defend loot boxes and say that it is a viable way of making money is in no way against moral values.
However, the government has decided otherwise and has imposed restrictions on the developers related to loot-boxes. In October 2020, the Netherlands court heavily penalized EA over loot boxes and issued a €10 million fine.
Moreover, Germany also came forward with strict rating requirements for games that include loot boxes. In addition to Netherlands and Germany, the USA is also gearing up to impose strict regulations on loot boxes.
The discussion on loot boxes might have cooled down among the players but a massive segment of society throughout the world is apprehensive about it.
